E.E. Judd speeches, 1912-1919.

The collection consists of two items: a manuscript copy of Judd's May Day speech, 1912, with a note identifying the author as Hawkins. The speech identifies the European tradition of May Day as a celebration of labor, and suggests Australia would benefit from emulating this practice. Also, a print copy of Judd's speech from the dock, published in Sydney by The Worker's Print, 1919. The speech was given 3 Dec. 1918 during Judd's indictment for prejudicing recruiting during World War I, and is concerned with pacifism, labor movements, and the draft, all within the context of World War I.
